The Oasis Women’s Project
Each Tuesday morning, at a Beacon Hill church, a small group of women from across the economic spectrum come together to enjoy a time of community and safety. Many are currently without their own homes, others have made there way back into humble living accommodations while still others are housed well and successfully for a sustained period of time.
They come together to experience the deep friendship that safe time together, without the pressures of the world, can provide. They play games, do arts and crafts, ( the friendship bracelets is one project) watch a movie, share snacks and conversation all as they grow to trust each other and to care for each other in a way not always afforded them as they live out their daily lives.

The grounding theme of the Women’s Project is respect. Each member is given and in return asked to respect all other members. All members have a strong voice in the program and all ideas are shared and discussed.
From time to time social service agencies host a gathering and share opportunities for services which might range from housing advocacy, health concerns, issues of domestic violence to opportunities for recreation including boat trips and cookouts for marginalized women.
Many of those who join the group each week are victims of domestic violence and it is because they live in fear that they are unwilling to be photographed, interviewed or otherwise identified. It has been a life changing experience to witness the fear these women live under and a profound joy to offer them this respite and safe place, this Oasis.
Every program that The Oasis Coalition of Boston fosters in done in the collaborative style. The Women’s Project is a powerful and successful program offering both leadership and learning experience to the young women, both student and faculty, of Suffolk University, among whom is Erica, Program Manager of the Women’s Project.
We wish to expand this program from one morning a week to perhaps several mornings weekly in different locations around Boston and could use your support. If you are interested in donating to this or any of our programs please visit our “donate” information tab.
